Welcome to Zwick Academy of Fine Art
We offer introduction, intermediate and advanced drawing and painting workshops and private lessons. ZAFA focuses on traditional classical realism to discuss the fundamentals of drawing and painting more broadly. It is our belief that the fundamentals of drawing and painting can be applied to all art mediums.
Weekend Workshops
ZAFA offers a series of rotating introduction and intermediate level workshops throughout the year. These 5 week workshops cover the fundamentals of drawing, oil painting, portraiture, figure, landscape, artistic anatomy, and master copies.
Advanced workshops: Tuesday and Thursday evenings
ZAFA offers a series of advanced workshops covering more challenging topics and longer format, higher level projects. These workshops are recommend for students who already have a good understanding of the basics and are interested in pushing their work and knowledge beyond a mastery of the underlying principals of drawing and painting.
Private lessons
ZAFA offers one on one instruction. These lessons are highly flexible and customizable. Lesson plans are custom tailored to address the aspects of drawing and painting you are most interested in learning.
ZAFA is committed to demystifying the art process and teaching students how to create proportionally accurate and balanced drawings and oil paintings, both from live models, still lives, and photo reference.
The vast majority of art is a quantifiable, learnable craft. We can break it down into several categories.
Linear drawing accuracy.
Value organization.
Color mixing/ dealing with oil paint as an art medium.
Composition.
There are tools and techniques to tackle each of these topics. It is ZAFA’s goal to teach these tools to the next generation of Hawaii artists.
